Braces

Some time ago, not too long ago, I was informed that I have 'missing teeth'. Basically I still had 3 baby teeth in my mouth which had no adult teeth to replace them. The dentist suggested I remove them and put on braces to close up the gaps, as these teeth would not last me a lifetime (i.e. they'll drop off some time in a couple of years, after which I'll be left with 3 gaping holes in my mouth unless I do implants which cost $5k each)

But I kinda refused to do braces and put my baby teeth to the time test. After all, I don't think my teeth are terribly crooked and should not need corrective surgery (that comes at a price of $5k).

But alas, within a year, one of my baby teeth chipped. It chipped the day I came back from Shanghai. I can still remember myself waiting for my mom at the Terminal 1 pick up point, and there I was munching on a butter cookie.

There was a 'crunch' and moments later I just felt like one of my teeth was somewhat jagged.
Went home and looked into the mirror.. Indeed... it chipped! From crunching on a cookie?!

Totally 'amazed' but how vulnerable the baby tooth was. So much for putting them to the time test. Oh, I must mention that my friend said her mum still had baby teeth, which was why I thought it was just the dentist's ploy to earn my $$. Ha.

Freaked out by the fact that the rest of my teeth might meet the same fate, I thought, might as well get rid of the root of the problem (no pun intended), and get rid of my teeth. No teeth, no chip.

And so I decided to part with $5k plus 2 years of not-looking-like-i-have-buckteeth, and went to the dentist this morning..

Plucked out 4 teeth: my 3 baby teeth plus 1 adult tooth (to make it balanced).

Now I'm still feeling the numbness in my mouth from the anaesthesia. It was quite funny actually. I was told to rinse my mouth and I spat the water out onto the floor instead of the basin, cos I couldn't control it!

For a moment, could empathise with those people who suffer from paralysis.. It's terrible not being able to control yourself.. (It's still quite funny though, on a temp basis)

And so next Sat I'll down for another dental appointment to put on my braces. Now I can only pray that when the anaesthesia wears off today, I won't be gripping in pain... it's FOUR teeth forced outta my mouth, mind you.

My 1st week being a true blue "22" (haha)

It's like 3pm now and I'm actually supposed to be doing up the activity list for my meeting later at 7pm.. But being my usual lazy self.. here I am surfing the net, and well.. writing this post.

My first week at "22" was a slack one.

Like TRULY slack.

I've been going home around 6 - 6.30 everyday, the latest being 7.30 for which I wasted damn alot of time making some stupid mistakes.

But in actual fact, my team works pretty late. Apparently, my team is one of those that stay in the office for more unearthly hours than others. But hopefully things will get better (since I'm supposed to be there to share the workload).

Ok to start off,

My team currentlyhas 6 ppl. 1 mgr plus 5 of us. 3 from Group A and 2 from Group E. I'm in Group E, with this other guy who's been here for like .. 4 mths. And apparently he's been working 10/11pm or even 12am almost everyday since he joined. But well, that's cos he's the only person in group E, and I do suppose that his workload will be halved with me joining. Not so soon, though. Cos I do believe for the 1st month I'm still very much a liability. Poor guy's gotta teach me stuff and complete his daily work at the same time, while I saunter home at 6.30pm everyday. Ha.

But it was really boring la. My computer wasn't set up until Friday. Which means that during the rest of the week, when I had nothing to do, I really was doing NOTHING. So even on days when I got off early, I had this empty feeling inside me and it just didn't feel right.

And while my teammate was going through the daily processes with me, it seemed like pretty boring stuff. I dunno la. But I was just wondering if I've landed myself into the wrong thing. But in any case, I think it's too early to come to conclusions, and I'm giving myself til the end of the month to 'fit in'.

Very different from ex-firm, where the whole lot of us enter in one big batch and all pick up everything from scratch. Here it's just me and me alone. I gotta say that the people are nice la. My team ppl are nice. But when they're doing work, they're really doing work. And there doesn't seem to be this chatting/snacking culture which I'm so used to in x-firm. But that's good in a way la, maybe I can really start to jian fei for real now.

Work wise, cos we're Groups A and E, there's v little interaction between groups as the processes to be performed are somewhat different. And so most of the time it will only be me and my team mate, who reminds me of one of my little cousins.

Ya and so what I was trying to say is, even though ppl are nice, there is v little interaction and it can get somewhat boring, and somewhat.. cold. But then again, it may be becos I'm new to the place. I dunno. Time will tell :)

My current mgr's pretty nice, and I'm quite glad for that. I've been going home early cos they're trying not to scare me off on my first week. As what he says, let me grow fat first.. (apparently my team mate has lost 4kg since he joined!) *hmmm*

Ok and so cos the entire team has been working hard, the firm's making new additions to my team. And so in 2008 there will be a new manager to manage Group E. It's gonna be a female mgr. (Sigh!) My cousin and I have come to this conclusion that female mgrs are well.. not so nice. And I think soon it will be really 2 separate groups liao. Sigh again! I think I quite like the Group A ppl.

And on Friday I went for this dinner thing at the Expo. Happened that the firm had this mini party thing as well.. (which I only found out on the day itself). Mgr said it was a good chance to go get to know my other colleagues, but well.. so last min, and I already had my dinner appt, so I din go, and probably seemed anti-social (again, as always).

Anw, hopefully won't have to work too late in the weeks to come.

I think there's potential for this place to be, a nice place. :)

Looking forward to good updates next week!

December - the holiday season :)

Hi Blog!
haven't been writing here in a while.. Not that nothing has been happening.. but rather, too busy to write.. Or at least, I've no more laptop.. lost all my bookmarks etc when I surrendered the/'my' Dell notebook last Friday.

The poor laptop that i have at home was the one i bought in uni. First year! so it's really a piece of electrical junk now..

Just came back from ST Chalet and tau-huay.. and ms tay was like.. did u read xx's blog?
And so i hurriedly came online after a quick 30 min shower (ok, not so quick after all) to take a look.. and it wasn't a wasted trip after all! There was a new post! Hehe.. with newer updates!

Merry christmas indeed! I hope this christmas season does bring love!

And so some updates about my life so far.. (I kinda realise it's quite a good idea to jot these things down.. so a couple of years down the road when you read these stuff again, it's a good way to reminisce.. and also a good way to.. well.. remember stuff.. esp since i've so contracted senile dementia.. sigh!)

Well ever since my last day on Friday, 30th Nov, I've been leading a pretty slack life..

1/2 Dec was Kotekitai kenshu..
It was 2 years ago since we slept at SCC! This year's welfare was a lot better.. there were even sleeping bags provided! But my poor air-bag pillow couldn't inflate and I slept with my head on the hard ground.. was quite okay initially, but in the middle of the night I had such a terrible neck ache on one side.. and then the other..

3 Dec Dad flew back..
After that it was just go-out everyday.. And cos it was my bday week I think my family was extra nice to me.. haha.. But I tink I kinda abused it la.. I woke up late everyday and no one said anything.. Ha!

Told them I was going to get an LV wallet.. along the lines of a Koala wallet in Damier canvas (white) or a white eugenie wallet in epi leather. And my dad actually said.. ok let's go to the shop later! But alas we didn't have time to go to the shop (on the 6th), and my dad flew off the next day.. there goes my sponsorship!

Oh and there wasn't time because we went to Sentosa to view "the marina collection", some condo at sentosa cove. And it's ... pretty ex... the pictures looked nice.. but we didn't get to go to the showroom.. and the place will only be ready in 2011.. so whatever.. no impact for now whether we get it or not..

Anw I'm more concerned about my wallet la..

Oh ya.. talk about wallet... C*t*bank called me up and told me I had a free facial with DR*.. I went.. and ended up parting with $575 (before GST!) for something which isn't even a facial package.. basically I'm just making a prepayment for $575 worth of products.. but I get 3 free facials worth $345 altogether..

Seemed like a good deal when I was there.. and the facialist promised me results.. I think I was kinda desperate at that time.. Suffering a terrible breakout from Shanghai and the idea of clear skin was hard to resist (even though I still have another 6-session package with another salon)

Ahh..

And so I decided I shall put off all other purchases until January, or at least when my bank account inflates back to normal.. Been paying off credit card bills amounting > $1k per card and I'm still trying to figure out where my $$ went to..

And then it was today.. went for the chalet.. brought some clothes etc not knowing whether to stay over or not.. My 1st stayover in say.. 2 years? I think.

well, turned out that no one was going to stay over.. only hj and i brought clothes.. so watever.. we din stay either and ended up dumping alot of food... only to march off to rochor beancurd at geylang to eat beancurd plus portuguese egg tart.

And I'm quite glad that I've a couple of non-family EY frens! Ha.. actually when I was distributing the Hanuta on my last day, there weren't enough! At first I was just throwing them into everyone-I-know's in-trays.. then I kinda realised that I actually know more people than I thought I did.. so it was quite paiseh la.. luckily there werent many ppl in the office.. I actually went one more round taking back hanutas from ppl tht I thot won't miss me.. haha..

I was just browsing the lv website.. and the patent stuff look really nice! but really not easy to maintain la.. and considering that I'm gonna be holding this lv wallet for really long.. i think the epi leather would be a good investment.. ok im seriously considering the white one now.. but then again.. white might get dirty easily.. ahh.. and i dunno the price yet la.. kill me if it's > 1k..

There's gonna be induction on Monday.. dunno what will happen after that.. seems like my new team is kinda... well.. shorthanded.. I hope i go in with a smooth landing..
