Braces
Some time ago, not too long ago, I was informed that I have 'missing teeth'. Basically I still had 3 baby teeth in my mouth which had no adult teeth to replace them. The dentist suggested I remove them and put on braces to close up the gaps, as these teeth would not last me a lifetime (i.e. they'll drop off some time in a couple of years, after which I'll be left with 3 gaping holes in my mouth unless I do implants which cost $5k each)
But I kinda refused to do braces and put my baby teeth to the time test. After all, I don't think my teeth are terribly crooked and should not need corrective surgery (that comes at a price of $5k).
But alas, within a year, one of my baby teeth chipped. It chipped the day I came back from Shanghai. I can still remember myself waiting for my mom at the Terminal 1 pick up point, and there I was munching on a butter cookie.
There was a 'crunch' and moments later I just felt like one of my teeth was somewhat jagged.
Went home and looked into the mirror.. Indeed... it chipped! From crunching on a cookie?!
Totally 'amazed' but how vulnerable the baby tooth was. So much for putting them to the time test. Oh, I must mention that my friend said her mum still had baby teeth, which was why I thought it was just the dentist's ploy to earn my $$. Ha.
Freaked out by the fact that the rest of my teeth might meet the same fate, I thought, might as well get rid of the root of the problem (no pun intended), and get rid of my teeth. No teeth, no chip.
And so I decided to part with $5k plus 2 years of not-looking-like-i-have-buckteeth, and went to the dentist this morning..
Plucked out 4 teeth: my 3 baby teeth plus 1 adult tooth (to make it balanced).
Now I'm still feeling the numbness in my mouth from the anaesthesia. It was quite funny actually. I was told to rinse my mouth and I spat the water out onto the floor instead of the basin, cos I couldn't control it!
For a moment, could empathise with those people who suffer from paralysis.. It's terrible not being able to control yourself.. (It's still quite funny though, on a temp basis)
And so next Sat I'll down for another dental appointment to put on my braces. Now I can only pray that when the anaesthesia wears off today, I won't be gripping in pain... it's FOUR teeth forced outta my mouth, mind you.
